The Fresno Council of Governments (Fresno COG) acts as a mediator and collaborative problem server, developing programs and solutions to address community development, socioeconomic and environmental issues that do not respect political boundaries. Fresno COG’s primary functions are transportation planning and programming. Fresno COG develops short and long-term regional transportation plans and sets policy for a wide variety of transportation projects. Fresno COG undertakes comprehensive regional planning with an emphasis on transportation while providing citizens with an opportunity to be involved in the planning process, and suppling technical services to its members. Fresno COG was established in 1969 by the elected officials of Fresno County and its incorporated cities. It is one of 38 regional and 500+ national voluntary associations of local governments.
